TWO GHANAIAN CANDIDATES EMERGE WINNERS AT THE INTERNATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS FOR WASSCE (SC) 2022

Two Ghanaian candidates, Master Alex Manu and Master Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Degbey both former students of St. James Seminary Senior High School, Sunyani have received the 1st and 2nd prizes respectively at the International Excellence Awards for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022.

The awards were presented to the deserving candidates at the Opening Ceremony of the 71st Annual Council Meeting held in Banjul, The Gambia. Ms. Chiomo Blessing Obidigo from St. Pauls Academy, Jos Plateau State, Nigeria, placed 3rd.

Two hundred and ninety-seven (297) out of 2,276,112 candidates who sat for the WASSCE (SC) 2022 in the five member countries of WAEC qualified for consideration for the Excellence Awards.

The President of the Republic of The Gambia H.E. Adama Barrow, was the Guest of Honour at the Formal Opening Ceremony. Also present were the Chairman of Council, Prof. Ato Essuman, Registrar to Council, Mr. Pateh Bah, and Council members from the five WAEC member countries.

The Ghanaian delegation was led by Dr. Eric Nkansah, Chief Government Nominee (Director-General, Ghana Education Service). Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, Ghana’s Non-Council Member on the Board of Trutees of the WAEC Endowment Fund also graced the ceremony.

The International Excellence Awards was instituted in 1985 to honour candidates with outstanding performance in the Council’s Senior High School Certificate examinations. The awards are sponsored by the WAEC Endowment Fund. The 71st Annual Council Meeting was from Monday, 13th to Friday, 17th March, 2023.
