The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a sub-regional organisation responsible for conducting various examinations in the English-speaking West African Countries, invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians to fill the following vacant position at Ghana National Office.
APPLICATION PROGRAMMER II
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be assigned duties in the Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) and would be required to:
- Design and develop practical application/software for the office;
- Develop and maintain software applications/technologies;
- Assist in application development projects;
- Design, develop and maintain web-based applications for the organisation;
- Advise Management on the IT needs of the office;
- Verify the accuracy and correctness of reports submitted to user departments, sections, and units;
- Prepare reports as required by user departments, sections, and units;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second-Class Lower Division) in Computer Science or allied discipline;
- A minimum of three (3) years of hands-on practical experience.
- Possess five (5) credits in WASSCE/GCE “O” Levels, including English language and Mathematics at a sitting, or six (6) credits at not more than two (2) sittings, including English Language and Mathematics.
Desirable Attributes
- IBM i (AS/400/IBM Power Systems);
- Experience in C#, PHP, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React and Flutter Mobile Application Development;
- Cloud & DevOps
- Experience in data structures, algorithms and software design and development;
Hands on experience in any of the following areas will be an added advantage:
- Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite and DB2 for i;
- JavaScript frameworks like Angular, React JS, Node JS etc.
- Natural Language Processing (NLP) using Python or Al frameworks.
- IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi), IBM Access Client Solutions (ACS), IBM i Navigator and PC5250 terminal emulation;
- Responsible use of AI coding assistants and models such as Claude, Codex and similar tools.
